Smith & Wesson is an American manufacturer of firearms, ammunition and related products. The company has been a subsidiary of American holding company since 2001. Smith & Wesson traces its beginnings to a small workshop in Massachusetts where since 1852 Daniel B. Wesson and his brother Horace began making percussion caps for firearms and had become skilled at making parts for the growing railroad industry, by 1854 the duo had incorporated as D.B. Wesson and Brother. In 1857 Smith and Wesson secured two contracts with aftermarket armament manufacturers who would purchase their revolvers to convert them into cartridge-firing weapons: it was one of the first instances of large scale commercialization of handguns and among their most profitable contracts prior to mass production beginning in 1860 with the advent of the American Civil War.” SMITH & WESSON – For more than 150 years, Smith & Wesson has been setting the standard for excellence in firearms manufacturing.
